Matt Blunt Stifles Personal Expression
Some Missouri state workers face stepped-up dress code:
Flip-flops and blue jeans are out, as is painting your nails at your desk.
Some agencies in Gov. Matt Blunt's administration have tightened their dress codes for state workers, aiming to project a more businesslike image.
The Department of Revenue made minor changes to its dress code policy -- and really began enforcing it -- in April, and the Office of Administration has rewritten its policy, effective Oct. 3.
Oh, my; so our state goverment employees have to dress like grown ups. Maybe they'll behave as grown ups. But we won't get our hopes up.
"It's important to have a professional image and for state citizens to view employees in a favorable light," Office of Administration Commissioner Mike Keathley said. "It is important that the public sees state employees as being professionals."

Well the problem is most of the employees this affected at DOR don't EVER see the public, they sit in a tiny little cube all day and don't have jobs that require public contact. As far as I have ever seen those workers who are in positions that deal with the public have never been allowed to wear jeans anyway. And what's wrong with casual Friday at least, it's a morale builder, and EVERYONE has casual friday in the office place practically. It's just one more reason to hate our freaking jobs. Plus a lot of these workers took certain positions because they didn't have to dress up for the last six years, many of them who make way less than $10/hour now they have to scrape up money to go out and buy new wardrobes, which I'm sure they will not be given a raise to do. More money being taken out of already spread too thin paychecks. The $30 k and up crowd of managers already DO dress up for work. This is just another straw on a broken camels' back.
